Seeking applications for Creative Minds of Tomorrow: Nurturing India’s Next Generation of Filmmaking Talent

Pranav Birje • Senior Correspondent

The Creative Minds of Tomorrow (CMOT) initiative, launched in 2021 to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, continues to be a beacon of hope for aspiring filmmakers across India.

Now in its fourth edition, CMOT is set to shine brighter than ever at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MoIB) in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), this programme is dedicated to discovering and nurturing young cinematic talents from across the nation.

This year, CMOT expands its scope to feature 100 young talents across 13 diverse film crafts, a significant increase from the previous edition’s 75 participants and 10 crafts. The categories span essential filmmaking disciplines, including Direction, Acting, Cinematography, Editing, Scriptwriting, Music Composition, Sound Recording, Costume Design, Hair & Makeup, Art Direction, Animation/VFX/AR/VR, and Voice Over/Dubbing. By broadening its reach, CMOT continues to provide an international platform for these emerging creative voices, allowing them to showcase their skills and gain the recognition they deserve.

CMOT is much more than just a talent hunt; it is a celebration of cinematic excellence. The programme encourages participants to create forward-thinking narratives that resonate with the spirit of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, reflecting the aspirations of India in Amrit Kaal.

This year, the initiative goes beyond just showcasing talent. Special workshops, masterclasses, and networking sessions with industry professionals will be organised to mentor and guide the selected talents, helping them refine their craft and navigate the complexities of the film industry. These opportunities are designed to provide participants with the tools and insights needed to succeed on both national and international stages.

Eligibility for CMOT is open to Indian citizens born on or after July 1, 1989. Submissions are limited to a ten-minute runtime, and regional films must include English subtitles to ensure accessibility to a broader audience.

Notably, previous participants of the “75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow” program are not eligible to apply, ensuring that the initiative remains a platform for fresh talent. Submissions must also include credits proving the applicant’s role in the film.

Through CMOT, the MoIB and NFDC are not just fostering a new generation of filmmakers — they are strengthening India’s position in the global film industry. By promoting cultural exchange and innovative storytelling, CMOT is supporting the country’s development as a prominent content creator on the world stage.

As the 55th IFFI approaches, the anticipation surrounding this year’s Creative Minds of Tomorrow is palpable, with the industry eagerly awaiting the next wave of cinematic trailblazers from India.
