Mumbai, 08th July 2024: Food, Music, and all things Punjabi, are the perfect ingredients for an everlasting bond, and the sets of Netflix’s upcoming film ‘Wild Wild Punjab’ served up just that! Touted as the most anticipated break-up film of the year, the cast Varun Sharma, Sunny Singh, Manjot Singh and Jassie Gill who play the characters of besties on screen, ended up being great friends in real life too – all thanks to Wild Wild Punjab. The film stars Patralekhaa and Ishita Raj in pivotal roles and these kudis were no less either! With the film’s release just days away, the cast spills the tea and recounts their most memorable moments from the sets of Wild Wild Punjab.
_”All of us bonded really well, all of us are Punjabis, even Patralekhaa enjoyed the whole experience and we love Punjabi music. We had the same taste in music! We even used to share our playlist with each other,”_ says Varun Sharma.
Their connection went beyond just music too; as Manjot Singh recalls,_”Sunny loved shopping, we have spent a lot of money because of him, while Varun made us eat a lot! He had a fetish for eating mushroom puffs every day, over and above trying some new wild dishes too daily.”_
The daily rituals extended to late-night “Baithak” sessions, where the group would unwind after shooting. _”Every day post pack-up we used to sit for ‘Baithak,’ a name I gave to these sessions, and Varun didn’t let us sleep because he was so energetic!”_ Sunny Singh said.
Jassie Gill shares another layer of their bond, noting how their shared language often led to amusing situations. _”Since we are all Punjabis, we’d often end up talking in Punjabi itself and we’d get stares from others who couldn’t understand what we were talking about,”_ he says. Their shared roots made communication seamless, adding an authentic flavor to their performances and their interactions on set.
Director Simarpreet Singh often had to play teacher to these wild wild boys, and he goes on to mention,_“These four boys were like kids on the set. They bonded so well and there was just so much laughter, chatter and brotherhood on the set all the time.”_
_“Filming ‘Wild Wild Punjab’ in Punjab was an unforgettable experience. We spent time with the locals, sharing stories and enjoying delicious meals together. Their warmth and hospitality made our journey truly special and added an authentic touch to our film. I’m grateful for the memories and the bonds we formed during our time there.”_ says Patralekhaa.
Ishita Raj shares further, _”Shooting ‘Wild Wild Punjab’ in Punjab was an incredible experience. We spent a lot of time on set, but we had so much fun. The cold weather and our baithaks were an unmatched combination. Working with Sunny again was a joy; our previous collaboration made our camaraderie even stronger on set. The entire shoot felt like reuniting with old friends, and that chemistry definitely shines through in the film.”_
‘Wild Wild Punjab’ is set to offer audiences a taste of this bond and the joy of their shared experiences. As the release date approaches, the bond these actors share off-screen promises to translate into a genuine and heartfelt performance on-screen, capturing the essence of friendship and the spirit of Punjab.
