On International Jokes Day, we celebrate the humour that brings joy to our lives. This year, television actors share their personal experiences of unscripted moments on set that led to the creation of iconic lines. They reveal how they often improvise during the shoot or tell jokes during a scene; occasionally, these spontaneous comments are so funny that they become part of the script. These quick-witted and impromptu exchanges highlight each actor’s creativity, bringing authenticity and appeal to their performance. &TV artists share some of these funny moments during rehearsals that later got added to scripts. These include Aasif Sheikh (Vibhuti Mishra, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai) and Geetanjali Mishra (Rajesh, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan). Geetanjali Mishra, aka Rajesh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “Laughter has the power to brighten our day and bring people together in a way everyone can understand. Life gives us many chances to laugh and share jokes. I remember a day on set for one of my latest episodes when I was shooting a morning scene with Katori Amma (Himani Shivpuri) and Bimlesh (Sapna Sikarwar). In the scene, I had a line teasing Bimlesh, saying she could have fun with her husband anytime since they live alone, whereas I don’t get to see my husband for months due to taking care of nine children. After my line, Katori Amma humorously teased me, saying, ‘Without seeing each other’s faces, you managed to have nine children. Imagine how many you would have if you lived together like Gandhari and Dhritarashtra!’ I came up with this line, and the spontaneous humour was highly appreciated by our director and immediately included in the scene. The scene became an instant hit, garnering over 40 million views on social media. This experience was a delightful reminder of how genuine and spontaneous humour can deeply resonate with the audience, creating memorable and cherished moments on our show.”

Aasif Sheikh, aka Vibhuti Mishra from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, shares, “While working on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, I often improvised jokes that ended up in the scripts and became fan favourites. One memorable line that became popular is “I am sarry, bhabiji.” I accidentally hit my co-star Soumya Tandon’s leg during a scene one day. I kept apologising, and our director liked it so much that he included it in the next scene. This unscripted moment became one of my most famous lines, and seeing how fans now mimic it is amazing. It’s a great reminder of how spontaneous comedy can connect with audiences. This experience taught me that humour and authenticity could have a big impact and create lasting connections with viewers, all thanks to the collaborative nature of TV production.”

So, laugh out loudly this International Jokes Day with your favourite comedy shows on television, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan at 10:00 pm and Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai at 10:30 pm, airing every Monday to Friday only on &TV.
