In May 2018, we started MRK Motorcycle Training in Charkop, Kandivali West, Mumbai, with a simple mission: to help people learn how to ride two-wheelers safely, confidently, and independently.
Our journey began with a 2012 Yamaha FZ-S, our founder Rohan Mhatre’s first vehicle, affectionately named Angel.
There was no large investment, no established business infrastructure, and no fleet of motorcycles waiting for customers. There was just one motorcycle, one person willing to take a risk, and a genuine passion for helping others become confident riders.
Today, eight years later, we look back at that beginning with pride. What started as a small, self-driven initiative has developed into MRK Motorcycle Training, a growing two-wheeler training business with six vehicles, an established identity, its own website, and a dedicated online training management system.
But our journey is far from over.
Our Beginning: A Passion That Became a Profession
Our founder, Rohan Mhatre, decided to leave his regular job in pursuit of something he genuinely believed in.
His passion for motorcycles was always strong, but he recognised a much bigger opportunity: thousands of people own two-wheelers without having the confidence or practical skills to ride them.
For some, riding a geared motorcycle is a long-standing dream. For others, it is a necessity for daily commuting. Many understand the importance of learning but hesitate because of the fear of traffic, balancing, clutch control, gear shifting, and handling a motorcycle.
We wanted to change that.
Our objective was never simply to teach people how to operate a vehicle. We wanted to help them overcome hesitation, develop practical riding skills, and become more responsible and confident riders.
That philosophy became the foundation of MRK Motorcycle Training.
Eight Years of Challenges, Learning and Growth
Our journey was not always smooth.
Just two years after starting the business, the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges to Mumbai. Like many small businesses, we faced uncertainty and had to adapt to changing circumstances.
Building a name from scratch also required considerable patience. It took approximately four years of consistent effort, customer relationships, practical training, and word-of-mouth recommendations to establish our identity and gain visibility on Google.
We did not choose the shortcut of aggressive expansion.
Instead, we focused on improving our services, understanding customer requirements, and growing at a pace that our business could sustain.
In 2022, we established a simple expansion strategy: add approximately one new vehicle each year.
Today, our training fleet caters to different learning requirements, including non-geared scooters, geared motorcycles, and larger cruiser-style motorcycles.
For us, every new vehicle represents another opportunity to welcome a learner and expand our services.
More Than a Motorcycle Training Business
Over the years, we have had the opportunity to train people from different walks of life.
Our learners have included doctors, engineers, corporate professionals, college students, actors, directors, producers, and many other professionals.
Some come to fulfil a childhood dream. Some want to become independent commuters. Others want to overcome their fear of geared motorcycles or learn to handle different motorcycle models.
Every student has a different story, and every successful learning experience reminds us why we started.
We believe that learning to ride is not just about controlling a motorcycle. It is about developing independence, discipline, awareness, and confidence.
