To raise awareness about the increasing kidney-related health issues, NU Hospital, in collaboration with Rotary Silk City Ramanagara and Crescent Child Care & Polyclinic, organised a walkathon in Ramanagara on Wednesday. The walkathon began from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and culminated at Kengal Hanumanthaiah Circle.
Flagging off the walkathon, Chandraiah R, Additional Deputy Commissioner & Additional District Magistrate, Ramanagara district said, “We should always remember that Health is wealth. While power, money, and assets can be regained, health must be protected. Regular health check-ups can help detect issues early and prevent complications. This walkathon by NU Hospital is a meaningful initiative to spread awareness about kidney health.”

The Growing Concern of Kidney Diseases
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Are Your Kidneys Healthy? Get Checked Early, Protect Your Kidney Health,” Dr. Vinod Kumar P, Senior Urologist at NU Hospital, stated, “In India, around 20 to 25 crore people suffer from some form of kidney disease. Kidney health is as crucial as heart and brain health. Ignoring kidney problems can be dangerous. Hence, regular check-ups can help in early diagnosis and prevention.”
Importance of Hydration and Lifestyle Changes
Stressing the role of hydration in maintaining kidney health, Dr. Nithin Nayak, Pediatric Urologist at NU Hospitals , stating, “Many kidney problems today stem from poor lifestyle choices. A healthy diet, drinking enough water, reducing junk food intake, and maintaining a healthy weight can significantly improve kidney health.”
Exercise and Commitment to Health
Batting for regular exercises, K. Sheshadri, President of Ramanagara City Municipal Council, said, “Exercise can help prevent many diseases. I stay healthy through daily workouts. A strong commitment to health is essential. This initiative by NU Hospital in association with Rotary is commendable and should inspire more awareness campaigns.”

Pradeep from Big Mart, Ramanagara. The walkathon witnessed a large turnout of college students and the general public.
