Mumbai, April 20: As part of the Khasdar Matrushakti Abhiyan of Uttar Mumbai MP and Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, nutritional kits were distributed to 125 expectant mothers in the constituency, further strengthening efforts to promote maternal and child health.
The distribution programme was held on Monday at the municipal hospital ground in Charkop Sector 1, Kandivali West. Local MLA Yogesh Sagar distributed the nutritional kits to the beneficiaries.
Underlining the significance of the event today, Piyush Goyal said, “Aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this grassroots initiative strengthens our commitment to maternal health. By ensuring adequate nutrition for expectant mothers, we are building a healthier and more resilient future generation.”

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, expectant mothers are closely monitored from the fifth month onwards by ASHA workers to ensure timely care and intervention. Nutritionally vulnerable mothers receive monthly support, while continued dietary assistance and health guidance are provided to both the mother and the newborn after childbirth, ensuring sustained well-being.
Each nutritional kit includes essential food items such as wheat flour, toor dal, moong dal, soybeans, dates, oil, jaggery, amla, and rice, along with fortified supplements and health awareness material. The kits are designed to meet the increased nutritional needs during pregnancy and support healthy fetal development.

Such interventions play a crucial role in improving maternal health outcomes and ensuring the birth of healthy infants.
Key Objectives of the Initiative:
* To provide adequate nutrition to women during pregnancy
* To ensure safe motherhood
* To reduce malnutrition and related health complications
* To promote women’s self-reliance and broader social participation
The initiative has received an enthusiastic response from local residents and beneficiaries, who described it as a meaningful and impactful step towards improving community health.
